Explains the role of Prison Legal Services (PLS) in helping incarcerated people access the courts and describes how the program developed out of the class-action cases Glover v. Johnson and Hadix v. Johnson. It highlights Joyce Dixson’s role at Crane as a jailhouse legal assistant working under the supervision of PLS attorney Ron Steinberg, providing legal help to other prisoners despite limited staffing and resources.
